The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal is an important symbol of Chinese culture and a precious heritage of human civilization. Recently, Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism organized a “home by the Canal” flash mob at Gongchen Bridge, the southernmost point of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. With the beautiful scenery of Gongchen Bridge, cheongsam, and dance, the Grand Canal is presented in the form of contemporary interpretation. Come and feel the taste of laodizi’s canal family.
Located at the north side of Daguan Bridge, Gongchen Bridge connects with Lishui Road and Taizhou Road in the east, and neighbours Qiaolong Street and Xiaohe Road in the west. It is the highest and longest stone arch bridge among all the ancient bridges of Hangzhou, and marks the end of the ancient canal. It has a length of 92.1m and a height of 16m. The middle part of the bridge surface is a little bit narrower with a width of 5.9m. As a bridge that is still in service, Gongchen Bridge still has its unique charm….. Gongchen Bridge is the starting point of the southern section of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal; as the northern gate of Hangzhou, a transportation hub in ancient times from Grand Canal to Hangzhou, it is also an ancient spot to welcome the emperor. “Gong” denotes the meaning of “welcome”, “Chen”of “Imperial Palace”; the tall arched stone bridge symbolizes welcome and respect for the emperor. The east side of Gongchen Bridge is the Canal Cultural Square, and the west side is the West (Gongchen) Bridge Historic Culture Block, both of which are worth visiting…..
