Archaeological Achievements of the Former Site of the Imperial Workshops of the Palace Museum” will officially open to the public in the Yongshou Palace Exhibition Hall! This exhibition takes the archaeological achievements and process of the Imperial Workshops site over the past five years as its starting point, presenting the rich connotations of the underground remains of the Forbidden City and explaining the archaeological logic of reading the “history book of the earth.” The exhibition is divided into two main sections, telling the “past story” of the Imperial Workshops of the Forbidden City during the Yuan and Ming Dynasties through proportionally reconstructed stratigraphic specimens and unearthed architectural artifacts, as well as its important position as the production center of imperial artifacts for the Qing Dynasty and a historical stage for the exchange and mutual learning between Chinese and Western civilizations.

The exhibition not only tells historical stories but also archaeological stories, interspersed with sections such as “Archaeological Timeline,” “Answers and Unknowns Buried Underground,” “Digital Tour of the Imperial Workshops Site of the Palace Museum,” and “Tools for Digging Through Time,” showcasing the excavation and interpretation process of the Imperial Workshops site through various techniques. No separate reservation is required for this exhibition; admission is free with a Palace Museum ticket. The exhibition runs until February 8, 2026.
